    The number of enterprises operating in the field of supporting industries in 2018 was about 2,000 enterprises producing spare parts and components and over 1,500 enterprises producing materials for the textile, garment and footwear industry, accounting for about 4% of the total number of enterprises. number of enterprises in the processing and manufacturing industry.

    Supporting industry enterprises create jobs for nearly 600,000 employees, equivalent to 8% of the total number of employees in the entire civil service industry, with net sales of production and business in 2018 estimated at over VND 900 trillion, contributing about 11 % for the total revenue of the whole manufacturing industry.

    "Countries with developed industries in the region and the world have paid great attention to and have had special mechanisms and policies to develop supporting industries since very early and in fact they have outstanding achievements have been achieved,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

    However, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung also frankly said that Vietnam's supporting industry still has certain limitations, so it has not developed as expected, especially the size and capacity of the supporting industries. Although supporting industry enterprises have improved, they are still few in number as well as lacking in resources and production technology, leading to the inability to meet the needs and requirements of enterprises.

    In addition, Vietnam still lacks leading enterprises, capable of leading the development of supporting industries. The role of leading enterprises is extremely important to create markets and create opportunities for supporting industries.

    "If leading enterprises do not earnestly develop supporting industries in the country, they will find cheaper international suppliers, while we are behind, lacking in capacity, it will be extremely difficult," said Deputy Director. Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung emphasized.

    In that context, it is necessary to consider the supporting industry as an important industry and a foundation for the development of Vietnam's industry; It is necessary to change policy thinking from giving incentives to businesses to supporting and improving the capacity of enterprises, especially domestic ones.

    Along with that, it is necessary to identify potential and advantageous industrial fields, specifying leading enterprises in each field.
